Eight online casino operators fined by Sweden’s Spelinspektionen regulator

Sweden’s Spelinspektionen gaming regulator has reportedly levied fines totaling a little over $4.4 million against eight iGaming operators for allegedly breaking its strict regulations regarding sportsbetting.

According to a report from SBCNews.co.uk, the firm that is responsible for the Bet365 brand in Sweden, Hillside (Sports) ENC, was hit with a financial penalty of almost $1.1 million after it was found to have offered wagering markets on sporting events where the majority of those participating were below the legal gambling age of 18.

Substantial scolding:

The news domain reported that an analogous punishment was handed to The Stars Group Interactive, which runs the domains at BetStars.se, FullTilt.se, PokerStarsCasino.se and PokerStars.se, for the same reason while equivalent breaches led to the Betfair International subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment as well as GVC Holdings’ ElectraWorks Limited subordinate each being ordered to hand over some $587,683.

The operator is reportedly responsible for the CoolBet brand in Sweden, Polar Limited, was commended to pay slightly over $74,700 after it followed the others in offering sportsbetting markets that had involved international under-19s and under-21s games of football.

Minor protection:

Katarina Abrahamson from the Spelinspektionen told SBCNews.com that the fines had been issued in order to ‘protect’ underage players from being influenced by gambling.
